my oral speech

It is said that looks are deceptive. do you think it's true?

Good morning to all the audiences in here, to the most beloved goody-goody teacher Hayati and to my fellow classmates, guys and girls. Peace be upon you. Today, I would like to give a speech, for my oral test, about “It is said that looks are deceptive, do you think it’s true?”

Are looks deceptive? In my opinion, there's no doubt they are. I am certainly agreed with the statement, 100% with an unequivocal YES! A person may not be like what and how he/she looks like. There are too many true accounts to prove it. Let me give you an analogy.

Once there was a man who lived alone in an isolated part of a forest. He hunted animals and sold their pelts for a living. He was usually alone. Whenever he was in the company of others, He seldom talked. Everybody thought that he was a bit eccentric but totally harmless.

Then, some girls went missing. Nobody knew what had happened to them. Peoples thought that they've might gone away with their boyfriends.

Until one day, some people had seen black, thick, foul-smelling smoke came from a chimney of a certain house in the woods. They had reported it to the police and the police went for some investigations. It turned out to be the lonely hunter's house. In the fireplace, they found some charred remains of bones, and there were no doubt that they were human bones. Comparisons, examinations and some other tests were carried out on the bones. It was found that the bones belonged to the missing girls.

The harmless-looking hunter had raped and then murdered the girls. After that he tried to get rid of their bones by burning them in his fireplace and that's how people passing by the isolated part of the forest notice the thick, black smoke came from some chimney in the jungle and smelt its foul smell. That is how unreliable looks can be when we try to guess a persona's characteristic by just glancing at his or her appearance.

In addition, let me give you another analogy to make up your mind. There was another case of a man who had gone to another country to live. He looked like a very kind and loving old man. He would stop to talk to the children and give them fatherly advices. One day a team of international justice seekers arrested him and took him away for trials. Indeed, he was used to be one of the senior Nazi officers who had ordered thousands of Jews to be sent to concentration camp where their lives were terminated with poisonous gas. The people in the community were certainly fooled by his kind looks.

All the foregoing examples show us that we cannot judge a person’s character by just looking at his/her look. As an aphorism says, “Don’t judge a book by its cover”. A person may look good on the outside but inside, is actually bad. So does vice versa, a person may look bad and fierce on the outside but inside is actually good and kind.

Okay, I have to get back to my place as time would not allow me to blabber much here. I would like to thank colossally to all of you for listening to my so-called speech just now. Thanks again and good-bye.
